Clarence Burton Hawkins

The passing of Clarence Burton Hawkins of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Gertrude (Haines) Hawkins occurred on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 29, 1912 in Keswick, NB, he was the son of the late Grant and Lucy (Williams) Hawkins. Clarence worked in the trucking business and at a young age worked on farms in Keswick, Scotch Lake and Bear Island. He delivered mail by horse and carriage. He worked for J.D. Irving Woodland for 38 years. At one time he was in charge of the pulpwood drives on the Saint John River and the Nashwaak. He didn’t retire until he was 78 years old, work was his hobby.Clarence loved to grow gladiolus and had a great vegetable garden. He loved to take his family and friends fishing at Moose Lake, NB. His grandson and great grandsons had the privilege of going fishing with Papa Hawk.

Clarence is survived by his children, Patricia Inch (David) of Burtts Corner, NB and Nancy MacKinnon (LeRoy) of Summerside, PEI; grandchildren, Karen Inch-Gilliss (David), Kevin Inch (Angela) and Heather MacKinnon; great grandchildren, Grace Gilliss, Matthew Inch and MacKenzie (McCoy) Inch. In addition to his parents and wife of 38 years, Clarence was the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his siblings, Myles, Stanley, Sherman and Claude Hawkins.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Watson Williams officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Charles Hawkins, David Gilliss, Kevin Inch, Heather MacKinnon, Karen Gilliss and Karen Hansen. Interment will take place in Keswick Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
